Description

San Pedro (Trichocereus/Echinopsis pachanoi) is a thin, columnar cactus native to the Andes mountains in South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru) which contains mescaline. Mescaline is nowadays one of the lesser known, but interestingly was the first substance classified as ‘Psychedelic’.

San Pedro, along with other mescaline-containing cacti have been an important element to the spiritual ceremonies of various indigenous cultures for thousands of years. The San Pedro experience has been compared to MDMA, and potentially offers life-changing experiences similar to those reported by the subjects of MDMA therapy studies/clinical trials. San Pedro is also said to promote radical introspection, often feelings of healing, and a sense of wonder and awe.

One important note about the San Pedro experience is that while it’s been described as transformative and life-changing, it is quite long.
